Challenge of modern SoC design: in advent of digital convergence in silicon industry, modern SoC (System-on-Chip) design requires more resources and time ever than before as seen in the table below. This fact inherently prevents SoC chip vendors from achieving the best time-to-market, as illustrated in the table below.

The importance of IP licensing: generally speaking, semiconductor IP( Intellectual Property) means pre-defined silicon function block which can be reused for SoC designs. To shorten design time for modern SoC as mentioned earlier, many SoC chip vendors have licensed key IP from external IP providers. By leveraging IP licensing, SoC vendors can not only achieve their faster time-to-market as seen the table below, but also expand their targeting markets.
